When it comes to British Seagull outboards, you either love them or you hate them. If I didn't have such good luck fixing the ones I've owned, I guess I would hate them.
Today I started working on a 1984 Featherweight 45 I bought this weekend. There were two problems - the Amal carb, which has quite a few plastic parts on it, the plastic connection section of the fuel line was cracked so fuel would leak out and the Air Intake with choke was broken into a couple parts. I tried fixing the line with epoxy but the fuel ate it away. I decided to remove the Amal carburetor and replace it with a Villiars I got out of a 1962-62 Century series. I wasn't sure if you can swap carbs that easily. I made some repairs to the throttle cable and replacement fuel line. After a couple pulls in the test bucket, it came to life! I love British Seagulls. They are truly 'The Best Outboard Motor for the World!
